Q. What is the cost?
A. Trout and Steelhead price depends on size and quantity ordered, but averages $.50 per inch.
Q. What is the delivery cost?
A. Delivery is $2.00 per mile from our Dayville Oregon hatchery.
Q. How much should I buy for my pond?
A. Quantity to stock depends on pond size. A good rule of thumb is a maximum of 500 fish per surface acre 12 feet deep. A surface acre is 43,560 square feet. So a pond about 200 feet long by 200 feet wide is just under a surface acre.
Q. What should the temperature of my pond be?
A. Your pond temperature should stay below 70 F in the summer and not freeze solid in the winter.
Q. Should I utilize any additional equipment in my pond?
A. Coldwater fish (trout and steelhead) may require aeration (a waterfall, fountain or aerator), especially in the hot summer months.
Q. How quickly will Trout and Steelhead grow?
A.Trout and Steelhead will grow up to an inch per month depending on pond and feed conditions.
Q. What is the process on ordering fish for my pond?
A. Fish Stocking Orders should be made by phone. You will be asked a series of questions about your pond. You need to know that your water rights are up to date, and the outlets are screened to prevent escape. Each order requires an ODFW transport permit, which we can obtain for you, and usually can be delivered within two weeks. There is a $15 ODFW permit fee and a transportation charge added when required to each order. To estimate your transportation charge, determine the distance between Dayville Oregon and your pond on Mapquest or Google Maps and multiply by $2 per mile. It is possible to transport your own fish. We can teach you how!
